Soccer reigns supreme in France when it comes to placing wagers, and with more than 50% of the nation intending to view the Euros games, and one-third of those likely to gamble, the figures are astonishing. Previous competitions have witnessed substantial betting action, and with the French squad projected to perform well, specialists forecast that nearly 10 billion Euros could be staked during the 2024 Euros.
The ANJ initiative astutely employs the obligatory cautionary notices present in betting advertisements to underscore its message. By emphasizing these frequently disregarded notices, the initiative seeks to demonstrate that a simple warning is insufficient to communicate the very genuine perils of compulsive gambling.
Rather than just cautions, the initiative directs individuals to Evalujeu, an online platform where they can evaluate their own gaming behaviors and obtain assistance if required.
This extensive marketing push encompasses online banner advertisements, promotional efforts on platforms like Snapchat, sound snippets on music and podcast applications, game summaries in the sports publication “So Foot,” and even short films showcasing renowned athletes.
The director of France’s gaming oversight committee (ANJ), Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, observed an encouraging development: “Following the spike in compulsive wagering during the 2021 European Championship, companies are finally taking initiative and modifying their approaches. They recognize their obligation to avert overindulgence.”
She continued, “This represents a promising beginning, but we must ensure this dedication persists throughout the World Cup and the Olympic Games. The ANJ will remain vigilant to guarantee each provider is fulfilling their role.”
