Chinas lottery revenue in October reached a new low point since May, according to iGB.

The celebration of China’s National Day Golden Week resulted in a month-to-month decrease in lottery sales in October. However, despite the ongoing suspension of video lottery, overall sales still climbed by 11.5% compared to October 2019, reaching 30.72 billion yuan (3.5 billion pounds/3.9 billion euros/4.67 billion dollars).

Sports lottery sales made up the majority of total sales, reaching 18.43 billion yuan. Although this is the lowest figure since June, it signifies a year-over-year increase of 24.0%.

The primary driver of sports lottery sales was digital games, generating revenue of 8.86 billion yuan, a 34.8% year-over-year growth. However, this represents the lowest sales figure since March. Conversely, sports betting sales rose by 13.6% to 8.4 billion yuan.

Instant-win sports lottery game revenue reached 1.36 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9%, while sports video lottery sales remained extremely low at only 50,000 yuan.

Meanwhile, welfare lottery revenue totaled 12.28 billion yuan, a decline of 5.4% from 2019, marking the lowest level since April.

With video lottery terminals (2019 revenue of 2.66 billion yuan) suspended before being completely prohibited at the beginning of 2021, digital games continued to dominate, generating revenue of 10.68 billion yuan, a 20.6% year-over-year increase. However, this figure is lower than any month in the previous six months.

Instant-win games contributed the largest portion of the remaining total, increasing by 33.9% year-over-year to 1.54 billion yuan.

Although sales for all other games decreased in the past month, Keno lottery witnessed a substantial rise. This increase was a staggering 320.0% compared to the previous month and a remarkable 412.2% compared to the same period last year, resulting in sales reaching 60.2 million yuan.

Overall, total lottery revenue in China has reached 261.4 billion yuan, showing a decline of 23.9% compared to 2019.
