The Ritz-Carlton establishment and gaming center in Macau has been closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Asian gambling center has witnessed a rapid increase in cases, causing the city to be locked down.
The Macau Government Tourism Office head, Rita Lau, declared the closure. The region has sealed off 17 structures due to similar outbreaks.
Macau recorded 146 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of infections to over 1,000 since June. Over 14,000 individuals are in isolation across the city.
Melco Resorts & Entertainment, the resort’s proprietor, stated that they will continue to enforce rigorous control measures as the well-being and safety of all visitors and employees is their top concern.
This news arrives as Macau’s legislative body just approved significant changes to its casino rules.
