The state of Vermont is set to introduce online mobile sports wagering on the eleventh of January, 2024.
Governor Phil Scott of Vermont and Wendy Knight, the Commissioner of Alcohol and Lottery, have declared that the Green Mountain State will initiate legal online sports betting on January 11, 2024.
Vermont residents will be able to download applications from authorized operators and place legal bets online commencing on that day. Consumers will shortly have the opportunity to register in advance with operators prior to the launch next month.
Scott signed House Bill 127 in June, which enabled the program to progress. The legislation permits up to six online sports betting firms to operate within Vermont.
Through a competitive bidding process, the Vermont Alcohol and Lottery Department chose DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook to operate mobile sports betting platforms in the state.
Operators will pay a tax rate of twenty percent of adjusted gross sports betting revenue. Betting is anticipated to generate an extra seven million dollars in revenue for Vermont in its initial year of legalization.
The legislation also provides enhanced resources to improve responsible gambling services in Vermont. Bettors must be twenty-one years of age to place legal wagers.
Scott, a long-standing advocate for legal sports betting, welcomed the launch date.
I advocated for Vermont to make sports betting legal years ago,” he stated. “It’s fantastic to see it finally come to fruition.
“Vermont citizens and guests will soon have access to a controlled sports betting marketplace, which will offer crucial consumer safeguards and produce income for the state.”
Commissioner Knight added, “We’re delighted to collaborate with three top companies in the sector to provide sports enthusiasts in Vermont the opportunity to wager on sporting events.”
